This is a cut above the majority of self-help books, there’s no pretentious advice, no fluff and no BS. We also learn about the many recent healrh struggles that David went throug since the publication of his first book and his new carreer goals. However, this book seemed to just be Goggins sharing story after story of accomplishing amazing feats without training and with major health problems. but I think there's many components that make up the human existence and he has triple-downed on just the physical.
This is an incredible mental hack that helps anybody that's plagued by doubt that they can overcome whatever obstacle is in front of them. Never Finished is about mental grit, becoming dedicated to discipline, and giving your all, to all things you commit to. David's raw and relatable writing challenges the pursuit of perfection, emphasizing the ongoing journey of personal growth. David Goggins had his mother feature in the recordings where there was a conversation at the end of one of the chapters and that was one of the most heartbreaking yet enlightening and inspiring conversations I’ve ever heard whilst listening to an Audible book. The combination of the superhuman spectacle of his accomplishments and the immense gravity of his words serves as one of the most potent motivational drugs that exist on God’s green earth. I believe there are people that are put here to elevate our expectations and redefine what’s possible for the rest of us, and David Goggins is the best example of that idea that I’ve ever come across in my life. In Never Finished , Goggins takes you inside his Mental Lab , where he developed the philosophy, psychology, and strategies that enabled him to learn that what he thought was his limit was only his beginning and that the quest for greatness is unending. If you fail to realise this, then these are opportunities wasted which could/should have been used to better yourself. When you're all fucked up and looking for more, the only tone you should allow inside your hea dis the tone of a warrior. When you drop your head, you are sending a direct message to your brain that you don't think you have what it takes to get better. No matter what comes down on your head, you must find a glimmer of light, remain positive, and never treat yourself as a victim. In terms of what he is advocating for and what he aims to inspire people to do, this book is another banger. Either way, it’s a bitter sweet pill to swallow, but if put into practice, is worth every second of suffering and pain that comes with it. I guess if there is a constructive way to beat the demons and fight the pain, this is quite a way to do it. It broadens your concept of your own capability, yet it is the first thing we lose touch with when things go bad.
I would personally pass and do not recommend this book, my time would of been better spent relistening to his first book, “You Can’t Hurt Me. I don’t mean to suggest that you must run one hundred or two hundred miles to believe you have what it takes to get where you want to go. Your enemy rejoices in his exile because he thrives in barren isolation; that is the only way he has learned how to cope and survive. I think Goggins does a great job of balancing the inspirational and motivational aspects of the book with the practical advice he provides. But through self discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, David transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a U.This results in there being some gnarly parts but also some of the most well packed, emotional and inspirational paragraphs ever read. He is indeed a savage but he puts himself through unnecessary hells to claim that title every day of his life. Especially if you intend to thrive in a harsh world where you have to work for everything that matters. You either love it and are deeply inspired to make dramatic changes in your life for the better, or you hate it and scoff at the idea that what he says about how he lives life is possible for you.
