The star product was undoubtedly the Interactive Tracy Island Playset. The set boasts ‘smart technology’ that enables it to ‘know’ which craft is launching, and play appropriate sound and light effects. But one of the most impressive features of the product is the semi-automated launch sequences. This was demonstrated with Thunderbird 3, and it was fascinating to see the craft being moved up through the roundhouse under its own steam. The set also comes with a wrist controller that activates ‘mission sounds’ from John up in the space station. Although the story did not tie into the Lady Penelope strip featured in the issue, the titular headline was written by Lady Penelope herself, who had signed on as a TV Century 21 reporter. Titled ‘Thunderbirds Are Go! | Introducing the World’, the video runs to one and half minutes and shows footage of the Thunderbird craft launch bays, the interior of Tracy Island lounge, aerial shots of the island, and what appears to be locations in Japan and an extra-terrestrial mining facility… We also have all the latest news on Thunderbirds Are Go, including a prize to win some exclusive goodies!

Candy was a spin-off magazine from TV Century 21 which targeted a much younger audience. Its feature strip, Candy and Andy, was a premise from Dennis Hooper and Gillian Allan and starred AP Films-created puppet characters. The publication's stories occupied a strange place within Thunderbirds continuity, more so than other expanded media of the time. A variety of Thunderbirds merchandise could be seen occupying the Magic Toy Shop where the strip was set early its in run but later stories involved the titular characters meeting Lady Penelope and even visiting Tracy Island. FAB doesn’t stand for anything! It was just a cool-sounding callsign invented by Thunderbirds creator Gerry Anderson to mean ‘affirmative’, but it’s not an acronym. Sorry folks!
