Moving on to the hands, both the minute and hour hands are diamond-shaped and look very sporty. One may say they look like swords, which of course would be a great detail bearing the military inspiration of this timepiece in mind. Drilled lugs are a welcome addition to the new SRPG, allowing you to change straps or bracelets more conveniently, where more focus and accuracy would otherwise be mandatory. For those who are looking for a nice automatic watch at a price that doesn’t break the bank, the Seiko 5 Automatic green dial is an impressively strong candidate. Overall the SNK805 has a clean, made-for-purpose appearance, will stand up to years of use, and is the perfect daily driver for anyone who needs a simple – yet elegant – automatic watch. It's simple, effective, and stands out in its heue shifting state against the meticulous perfection of the case, hand, and marker finish. While the texture was created with a machine, it also conveys the image of a skilled artisan gently scooping up material with a little tool and loupe.
Just like its brother, there are rings that tell the time. One of them reads the minutes in an hour while the other reads the hours in a day.That is why this watch is so impressive. You don’t need to wind it, or change the battery. So long as you constantly wear it, it will last and run for years and years. We didn’t say all of that as a suggestion that Seiko should have fitted a bracelet to the SNK809. Budget watches can be great at many things, but bracelets at the lowest price point can feel like they’re made out of tweezers.
To avoid optical distortion, all cases and dials were to be mirror-finished (aka Zaratsu polishing) Fitted on top of the dial and to the case is a flat Hardlex crystal. This is a rather thin crystal. Hardlex is Seiko’s proprietary hardened mineral.One of the reasons it looks so rugged is its strap. It’s made from Nylon. It doesn’t scream luxury. But the SNK805 is a field watch, so the material is what you want. It’s very durable. Buyers should look for NATO, canvas, perlon, or plain leather straps that go with the dial color you’ve chosen. Stay away from crocodile, stingray, and other exotic or expensive leathers as the watch is too casual. After a few days of wear, it becomes softer and more comfortable, but it’s worth looking at an affordable replacement. The good news is that the SNK809 looks great on a variety of straps, including rubber and leather watch straps. A rubber strap looks great too, and it’s very comfy.

On the dial, the marks have been separated into two rings and printed. The outer ring of the dial indicates minutes, and the inner ring hours – once again reminding us of a pilot's watch. Timex deserves a lot of credit for making the MK1 Mechanical because it answers a real ask from a lot of watch collectors. The fact that we have a cool, military-inspired, and manual wind watch for under €200 makes me realize that the watch world listens every so often. Much like the Seiko, the Timex is lightweight, easy to love, and really nice looking. What do you think? The Seiko or the Timex?
