About this deal

On some occasions publications may do little more than note that nails were recovered durin g excavation. I wonder if you might help me identify this nail. It was found in Kent, UK, between Northfleet and Southfleet where Roman remains have been found previously. In our photo you can see the round sawn-off peg that secured the tenon of the lower vertical post into the mortise that had been cut into the horizontal beam. I have always assumed it was made of certain metal , but yesterday I put it under both my metal detectors and it wasn’t detected.
