About this deal

Launched in Britain nearly 50 years ago in 1972, Fonseca Bin 27 continues to be blended from selected reserve Ports chosen for their smooth, round, full bodied palate and their fine, intense fruit character. The wines are matured in large seasoned oak vats to give them smoothness and complexity while retaining their intense and vibrant fruit character. Blended for consistency and quintessentially Fonseca in style, Bin 27 is bottled when ready to drink. A superb balance of ripe fruit, delicate acidity and elegant notes of wood aging. Full and fruity on the palate with a lingering finish. Bin 27 is a rich, fruity wine made from a blend of reserve wines. It is sold all over the world, with particular popularity in the North American market. This consistency derives not only from continuity of family involvement, and the knowledge and skill passed down from one generation to the next, but also a close link with the vineyard. The firm's three estates of Cruzeiro, Panascal and Santo António are the heart of the distinctive character of Fonseca's Vintage Ports.

Fonseca Bin No 27 was created over a century ago for family consumption, and only released commercially in 1972. Manoel Pedro Guimaraens who founded Fonseca in 1822, created this special port reserved for his family and kept in Bin No.27 of their private cellar. This wine is ready to drink and does not require decanting. The bottle should be kept upright, protected from light and at a cool and constant temperature. Fonseca Bin 27 pairs beautifully with desserts, dark chocolate and berry fruit. It all works splendidly with the full flavour and rich creaminess of cheeses such as Camembert or Vacherin Mont D’Or.Established in 1815, Fonseca belongs in the first rank of Vintage Port houses. It is regarded as one of the most stylistically consistent of the classic Vintage Port houses and its Ports have been made by five generations of the Guimaraens family since its foundation. This consistency derives not only from continuity of family involvement, and the knowledge and skill passed down from one generation to the next, but also a close link with the vineyard. The firm's three estates of Panascal, Cruzeiro and Santo António are the heart of the distinctive character of Fonseca's Vintage Ports. Fonseca's respect for the vineyard and the unique environment of the Douro Valley expresses itself in the firm's leadership in the field of sustainable viticulture. In 2006 it became the first house to offer a Port made entirely from organically produced grapes. Fonseca is the only Port house with four 100 Point scoring wines. Perhaps more than any other Port producer, Fonseca has built a loyal community of Port enthusiasts who value its individuality and the inimitable character of its wines.

Fonseca was founded in 1815 and is regarded as one of the most stylistically consistent of the classic Vintage Port Houses. Vintage Port runs like a continuous thread through Fonseca’s history, from the legendary Fonseca 1840 to the superb declared vintages of the present day, their consistency deriving not only from continuity of family involvement and the knowledge and skill passed down from one generation to the next, but also a close link with the vineyard. Wine & Spirits, December 2017 – 90 points “A finely blended Port, this has a bristle of tannins up front, melding their chocolate richness with dried fruit flavours, ending clean and sweet. The wine’s lasting spice places it with a savory pumpkin pie.” Anthony Dias Blue, Tasting Panel, USA, February 2018 – 91 points “A blend of select reserve Ports chosen for their full-bodied palates; dark ruby colour; smooth and dense with toasty notes and rich, ripe, and deep flavours.”

LBV was developed as an alternative to Vintage Port for more relaxed and informal occasions. Like Vintage, LBV is a very high quality Port from a single year. LBV Unfiltered is aged in large wooden vats and then drawn off into bottle with no fining or filtration after four to six years. The result is a naturally expressive wine which has sacrificed none of its depth and fullness of flavour. Late Bottled Vintage is bottled when ready to drink. A limited quantity of this outstanding blend was produced.
