About this deal

One of the many German battle groups to fight into the heart of the allied lines was a kampfgruppe under the command of Obersturmbannführer Peiper. Within the ranks were men of the 1st Battalion, 9th Fallschirmjäger Regiment, 3rd Fallschirmjäger Division, as seen in one of the most famous photographs of the period. Among the plastic kits for Bolt Action, the German army has the most kits to choose from. Maybe that is to reconcile for the very first plastic kit of the German Infantry (we have come a long way since that), or just because they are the bad guys and due to that higher in demand. Following up on the Blitzkrieg Infantry (sorry, that article is only available in German, as it was published prior to this blog being bilingual in 2014/15) that covered the early war troops, this German Grenadier kit covered the late war. Always using the beige of the camouflage already on the wet palette, I brushed the base with a dry brush to bring out the breach and create depth. At this point, always using The Army Painter kit, I decorated the base with tufts of grass. Since the tufts are very large, I cut a tuft into 4 parts and glued two to the base. Conclusions The “Band of Brothers” starter set is full of everything you need to start playing, some time ago, you may remember, we saw the very unboxing of the Band of Brothers box. How to paint Bolt Action German Grenadiers x9 of these platoons for a company with a company command base, I would also add other support units like Artillery and antitank just haven’t worked that part out yet.

How do these compare to others? Well, within the range they work quite well, yet are a bit bigger than the first / original Bolt Action range metal miniatures. Warlord Games produces Bolt Action as an heroic 28mm scale, as such they are noticeably heftier than for example Perry Miniatures, but will blend quite well with Empress or Artizan Design for example, especially at arms length. team for this task. Skorzeny’s team was assembled in secret, hiding their true purpose behind the assumed name of Panzerbrigade 150. All in all, the result is a miniature with colors perhaps a little too saturated, the uniform had to be more olive, desaturated and tending to gray compared to the “jungle” green that I got instead. So let’s focus on how to paint a miniature as small as Bolt Action’s, just 28mm, more than the colors themselves. Maybe its time to create my own house rules so I can have my own large engagements on my 6ftx4ft table.Last thing before starting: as you will see, I used the colors made available by The Army Painter, but if you have other brands at home or you want to make other choices, here is the conversion table. How to mount a Bolt Action miniature Please note that the 6 sprues of German Grenadiers contain enough components to make 36 models - so you will have 3 extra men - perhaps to create a FOO, Medic, or other additional units to further bolster your force. Platoon Command: 1x Officer with Carbine 1x Assault Platoon commander with carbine 1x platoon sergeant with SMG 2x radio with rifle 2x Runners

For purely game use, you can also use a single brown wash for the entire miniature, but if you want to get a more detailed level of shadows, you can use different ones based on the area you are making. But always remember to wait for the first one to dry before spreading the second one. Of course, a LMG team wouldn't be missed. In this case it is the MG42, which is included two times per sprue. Once shoulder mounted and as a individual bit, including tripod. The ammunition belt over the shoulders is a very popular bit, that we have seen in multiple sprues so far. Faced with the problem of capturing and, if necessary, destroying bridges held by the Allies to cut off The 33 SS Grenadier Division was marked by their tricolour shoulder badge and was formed from volunteer French soldiers. Originally named the Legion of French Volunteers, the Charlemagne division consisted of 11,000 men in one common cause – to defeat communism. They fought battles in Russia and Poland against overwhelming odds and even managed to break into Berlin to defend the Fuhrer. With only three hundred men, the German unit would vainly try to stop the Red Army. The Unterscharfuhrer Egune Valot destroyed eight tanks with panzerfausts, posthumously earning him the distinguished Knights Cross. He was a prime example of the type of men that joined up with the Charlemagne’s. The unit would go on to fight with the Hitler youth in the desperate defence of Berlin, there having some success at taking out over 14 soviet tanks in hit and run style raids. They were eventually whittled down to just 30 men before escaping. These superbly sculpted plastic miniatures allow you to field squads of German landsers dressed in late war M44 tunics, camouflage zeltbahn poncho, etc. They can be equipped with a wide variety of some of the best weaponry available to any army of the war - from the deadly STG44 assault rifle to the tankbusting panzerfaust! To break out for a bit more dynamic poses, you can give them panzerfaust or have them throwing grenades. In have of the open hand, I had the choice from different rifles, and went for a russian SMG. I guess i went a little overboard with my collecting, i didn’t want to miss out on anything. its most annoying to have a game or build an army only to find that you have a unit missing and need to wait weeks or months for it to arrive.

The regular german soldier of the Heer / Wehrmacht was organised in Infantry Divisions. The first recruitment wave covered 40 divisions, there was a total of 35 of these waves during the war, creating new divisions by regrouping existing divisions or reorganising reserves and volunteers. Among these volunteers were foreign forces as well, maybe one of the most famous was the Blue Division, the spanish volunteers formed as the 250th Infantry Division, sent by Franco to fight the communists on the eastern front. You can use these miniatures to play them as these volunteers as well. sergeant with rifle 1x corporal with SMG 1x LMG 1x Assistant LMG 1x Ammo Bearer with rifle 7x men with rifles. The Battle of the Bulge Campaign book is no exception. In addition to 12 scenarios and detailed history of the conflict, you’ll find new units and theatre selectors to enhance the character of your German forces. Use in combination with the Armies of Germany Bolt Action book, you’ll have an exhaustive profile of all the units and theatre selectors at your disposal. Of course, in the meantime Warlord Games released new and further improved plastic kits for Bolt Action, yet this kit was quite the clear message when it was released. A well done plastic kit, with lots of options at a very competitive price of around 25 GBP, now 29,50 GBP. This one is probably one of the best kits you can buy for the German army in plastic, if you get your hands on inidividual sprues of the other boxes, it gives you incredible freedom in building and converting. Most interesting the Waffen-SS and Winter Germans for weapons and heads.Bolt Action is played at platoon level, so your army is going to consist of a couple of HQ units, a few squads (with transports if points allow), a few support units and up to a single tank – there are restrictions on what you can add in terms of support/armour in a standard platoon chart, plus further allowances/restrictions if you’re using a theatre specific one. Tanks are scary things in Bolt Action as in reality, not much can hurt them Enough plastic components to make 30 late war German Army miniatures. Includes a host of options to allow for different weapon configurations and command models.

As mentioned above, you have quite the options to choose from. Very characteristic faces, with different hats and helmets. Proper details and very nice to see, that they recreated some expressions from the Osprey colour tables.

I think 30 miniatures is a very good size for these. Bolt Action is platoon sized, by that you could recruite a small army already from a single kit. Or go for one of the Beginner bundles / starter armies that Warlord Games offers, and you're rapidly good to go. Casting is well done, mould lines can be an issue on some of the finer pieces, but yet you get something of proper quality. The following great value bundles will set you well on your way to successful disruptions of Allied lines on the tabletop. Kampfgruppe Peiper There is also the Tank War expansion for playing big tank battles as well, which is where your tank platoon boxes will come into play, but for a standard game these won’t get used normally. These kits go a long way, especially for Bolt Action. 30 Miniatures is enough for a small army, two full squads, an additional weapon team and small squad for the platoon leader. As I already covered those special position with metal miniatures, I went on to build 3 full squads. I am really happy about the ressources you have to toy around with.
