About this deal

This homemade Vanilla Lip Balm makes for a great gift idea for birthdays, holidays, wedding showers and more! This recipe is super simple, but you will need a few special tools on hand to make sure it comes together perfectly. We also don’t use any synthetic preservatives such as Parabens and Phenoxyethanol, although they're pretty common too, including with a few brands that claim to be natural (you know who you are!). We avoid a lot of other things too, way too many to list here. Poppy: Phytosteryl/Isostearyl/Cetyl/Stearyl/Behenyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Diisostearyl Malate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Polybutene, Hydrogenated Poly (C6-14 Olefin), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Microcrystalline Wax/Cera Microcristallina/Cire Microcristalline, Octyldodecanol, Synthetic Wax, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Mica, Astrocaryum Murumuru Seed Butter, Sodium Hyaluronate, Propylene Carbonate, Tocopherol, Rosin/Colophonium/Colophane, BHT, Polyglyceryl-2 Diisostearate, Aluminum Hydroxide, Fragrance/Parfum, Limonene, Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Red 6 Lake (CI 15850), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Red 28 Lake (CI 45410). In our ongoing plan to improve our sustainability, the Lanolips Basic Balm tubes are made from 100% post-consumer-recycled material. Our boxes are printed using soy-bean and vegetable-based inks. Lanolips' goal is to transition all tubes to more eco-friendly material over the next 12 - 24 months, as testing and material are further advanced.

There's lots of things you won't find in these lip balms (or any of our other products) because they were all formulated for family members and close friends. This includes Paraffin and Mineral Oil which derive from petroleum, but are commonly found in most commercial lip products. We don’t think putting the stuff that goes into our cars on our lips is the healthiest thing we can do, especially when everything on the lips eventually gets eaten. The Bergamot and Geranium essential oils in this recipe are used not only for their uplifting, sweet, and citrusy floral aroma but also because they are perfect for tender skin.Essential oils . You can use Vanilla Oil, which isn’t a true essential oil but is a natural fragrance oil. You can also use Balsam of Peru, which works well for a true EO. All essential oils are optional. Don’t add them if you don’t have them. Our tried and true (and loved!) recipe features two of our all-time favorite carrier oils, Avocado Oil and Coconut Oil. Both moisturize and enrich your skin’s softness for hours. Plus, we added a boost of vitamin E for extra beautiful and silky lips.

Carnauba Wax: “Carnauba waxis obtained from of a species of sustainably grown palm known as the “Tree of Life” or Copernica cerifera. These indigenous trees flourish in northeastern Brazil and are a different species than the palms planted purely for their oil.The wax is derived from the leaf of this tree, and harvesting is done via manual pruning once a year, allowing the tree to continue growing for decades.”– Mountain Rose Herbs FAQ & Substitutions What can I use instead of coconut oil? Some lip balms even contain gluten, so if you are very sensitive like I am, it might help to make homemade. If you are looking for a true essential oil to use in this recipe that would have the same notes of vanilla, I would recommend Balsam of Peru Oil. It has a wonderful woody, vanilla-like scent that would be perfect for lip balm.

If you want to add some Vitamin E oil or Organic Rosemary Extract to act as a natural preservative, you can do that as well. Just a few drops will do since this is a small recipe. I was a little intimidated when I first started making my own homemade beauty products. I never thought of myself as a DIYer, but I realized how easy it was to make my own products once I started. And it’s a ton of fun!! I love not having chapped lips in the winter, but I don’t like regular lip balm from the store. I know there are a lot of natural choices out there, but they can be expensive and hard to find. Plus they still often contain “natural flavors” and artificial fragrances….whatever those might be. I first experimented with making homemade peppermint lip balm last month and loved it. First, all it takes to make it is melting ingredients in a bowl over a double boiler. It’s the easiest craft ever, except when you hand someone a tube and tell them it’s homemade, they will be seriously impressed because it sounds much more difficult than it actually is. Score points for you! use of the content you supply does not violate these Terms of Use and will not cause injury to any person or entity. In a double boiler, combine the avocado oil, shea butter, beeswax, coconut oil, vitamin E oil, and vanilla. Stir until completely melted.

In our biggest beauty test yet, involving the most testers and products we've tried to date. Nearly 1,400 women swiped and pouted their way through 61 brands of lip balms to find the most effective lip treatment. We asked them to assess ease of use and how well the balm hydrated and protected their lips from dryness Our testers also looked into greasiness and how often they needed to reapply the balm throughout the day. In the GHI beauty lab, we measured how effective each balm was at maintaining the protective moisture barrier of the skin over a six-hour period after applying the product. Because we make our products for our families, we have a strict ingredient philosophy that excludes ingredients like Parabens, Phenoxyethanol and penetration enhancers. that is, or may reasonably be considered to be, defamatory, libellous, hateful, racially or religiously biased or offensive, unlawfully threatening or unlawfully harassing to any individual, partnership or corporation; My 6-year-old daughter loves makeup and is always getting into my lip balms and mineral makeup. Unfortunately, most over-the-counter beauty products contain ingredients that are toxic and linked to reproductive abnormalities. I don’t worry about how my beauty products affect her because I make them myselfwith natural ingredients.
