About this deal

Star Wars: Legion is a tabletop miniatures game. It can be played out of the box on a table or other flat area, but part of the fun is painting your miniatures, and creating terrain to add a realistic look and feel. Game mats are also available separately to provide a detailed surface to play on, or you can create your own using various materials available from hobbyshops. Perhaps a plain green felt mat for grassy planets or white felt for a snowy planet surface. If you have a 3D printer there are even various buildings and accessories available online that you can print and paint! Games Stats To keep it simple: It’s Star Wars. It’s in the title of the game and it oozes everywhere in the feeling of play. If you were to take a cursory glance at the game you can tell that the people behind this game have a strong passion for the series. You see a model like Obi-Wan in his signature Soresu pose while in the same outfit from the Clone Wars. If you know what those words mean you will identify with its flavor. Many of the franchises’ most quotable lines make it into the game as abilities you can use. To begin building your Separatist armies, you’ll find eighteen unpainted, finely detailed B1 Battle Droid miniatures, enough for two corps units. Ready to support them on the battlefield are four Droideka miniatures representing these destructive droids in both their standard and wheel mode forms. Obi-Wan Kenobi and General Grievous each pose with lightsabers at the ready, prepared to lead their troops into battle and show off their skills in combat. Both these miniatures are exclusive to the Clone Wars Core Set. In addition, most advertising networks offer you a way to opt out of targeted advertising. The only criticism I would have with the army building at the moment, is that there currently isn’t enough choice with the amount and variety of units that can be put into an 800 point army. This will of course be remedied by FFG very soon, with the release of numerous new army option expansions. Rebel Commandos and Snowtroopers are just two of the army choices currently in production, to be brought out soon! Conclusion & Final Thoughts on Star Wars Legion Whilst the game can be played straight out of the box there is also an optional hobby side of the game! A fully painted army of miniatures is one of the most thrilling sights in gaming, and even if you don’t have a history with miniatures painting, it’s easy to get started. The opponent then rolls dice equal to the amount of damage they take, unless they have an ability that lets them alter the number of dice rolled, to reduce damage taken. After battle, face down tokens are placed one by one to determine which troops you are to use. We play to defeat all of your opponent’s troops, however there are other missions you can do in the core box. As skilled as he is, Kenobi may have met his match in General Grievous. Proudly wielding the trophy lightsabres he has collected from the Jedi he has defeated in battle, Grievous is a particularly dangerous opponent, his agility making him equally adept at avoiding damage as he is at doling it out. Within this Core Set, you’ll find one beautifully detailed General Grievous miniature that can be assembled in three different ways: with two of his trophy lightsabers and a cloak; carrying a single lightsabre and a DT-57 “Annihilator” blaster pistol while shrouded in his cloak; or with all four trophy lightsabres at the ready.

Puzzle Pieces

Each unit has its own descriptive card that sits at the side of the table, and those cards can be given upgrades. A single squad of stormtroopers, for instance, has one leader and three regular troopers. For a price you can add another trooper, giving the unit another hit point. Or, for just a little more, you can buy them a heavy weapon. A unit upgraded in this way would have three cards along the sideboard listing all the extra abilities it now has. A diorama from Gen Con 2017. The learn-to-play book includes basic instructions for painting, but also for creating scenery exactly like this out of stuff you can find at the local hardware store. Photo: Charlie Hall/Polygon Lasers spit from blasters, speeders zoom and lightsabers slash in this latest outing of Fantasy Flight’s Star Wars wargame. Will you stand with the Jedi, or heed the call of the Dark Side? The new Star Wars Legion: Clone Wars box set brings the action to the prequel trilogy, pitting Obi-Wan Kenobi and Republic Clone Troopers against the devious General Grievous and his army of droids.

Star Wars: Legion invites you to enter the ground battles of the Galactic Civil War as the commander of a unique army of miniatures filled with troopers, powerful ground or repulsor vehicles, and iconic characters like Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker. While innovative mechanics for command and control simulate the fog of war and the chaos of battle, the game’s unpainted, easily assembled minis give you a canvas to create the Star Wars army you’ve always wanted to lead into battle—whether you fight for the monolithic, oppressive Galactic Empire or the ragtag Rebel Alliance." This is an instance where even including miniature dice would have been an acceptable compromise, had there simply been more of them. But, considering that Fantasy Flight is using multiple styles of custom dice in Legion, I’m not sure that would have saved the company any money. Part of the fun of the Star Wars Legion franchise is in assembling your army, and this collection does not disappoint. You are given a lot of choice with poses and weapons to create the army you want. We did find this set a lot more fiddly than in previous versions, and it seemed to take longer to put the miniatures together. However, once assembled, we got them sprayed and they looked fantastic ready for their first battle. The Gameplay Two squads of Rebel Troopers (each with seven unique miniatures) stand ready to fight for freedom on any battlefield. Five are armed with A-280 blaster rifles, while two heavy weapons specialists carry a Z-6 rotary blaster cannon and an MPL-57 modified to fire ion torpedoes. The two players then look at how many units they can activate, and each player designates those units on the battlefield that are within range 1-3 of the commander, and that have not already been activated. A token is placed beside the models to designate this.Moving, as the name suggests, allows you to cross the battlefield with your units. The game comes with three movement tools, and each unit has a specific movement range varying from 1-3. When moving a trooper squadron you move the unit’s leader the designated range, then bring all his fellow troops into cohesion. Vehicle movement is slightly different, in that the tool clips into place with the front base of the vehicle, and vehicles can also pivot and reverse. All of the miniatures come pre-cut from their sprues and have a minimum of mold lines. The plastic itself is sturdy and likely to stand up well to wear and tear. Superglue is required, as is a hobby knife or mouldline remover, but overall, assembly was a breeze. The whole process took me just a few hours of work. Also included are a few segmented rulers for movement and range, a collection of cards, and over 100 die-cut counters. Find a friend who wants to play too. This way you can spread the cost of a core set between two of you and you now have a buddy to play with! I also recommend switching factions between the two of you, I know you love the Droids but this way you’ll know for sure. It will also help you understand the game better and yourself as a player. When a unit activates it gets to do two of the following actions – only the Move action can be duplicated – all the rest you can only perform once. The list of actions is as follows:
