As the guidance sets out, all children have a right to education, and schools must not discriminate unlawfully against pupils because of protected characteristics, including gender reassignment, disability, sexual orientation and sex. The Equality Act gives broad protection against discrimination based on the protected characteristic of gender reassignment, but this does not mean a child has changed sex (or that a child will transition as an adult). Interpreting the Equality Act 2010, the guidance says: Contributions include research into experiences of sexuality in diverse contexts and among diverse people, with personal stories of activism and initiatives that transform the ways in which sex and sexuality are experienced. The introduction draws together threads that weave across the issue, exploring their interconnections and implications for theory, policy and practice. This refers to people who are questioning or exploring bisexuality, often due to a curiosity about one’s romantic or sexual attraction to people of the same or different genders. Bisexual

This guide will explore the creeping expectation that everyone (whether trans or not) has a "gender identity", which should be expressed to others via a particular pronoun. The ritual, like others promoted by the gender identity movement (e.g., using the phrase "people that menstruate" instead of "women", or "assigned female at birth" instead of "female"), works to undermine the evidential fact that across the globe women are oppressed socially, politically, and economically because of their sex and not because they somehow identify with their subordination. To refer to people by gender identity rather than sex is an attempt to erase the class of women and prevent them from fighting for their liberation. As Helen Joyce observed in her recent book ‘Trans’, “… because of gender identity ideology, the quest for the liberation of people with female bodies has arrived at an extraordinary position: that they do not even constitute a group that merits a name”. Cultural Influences and Debate Wider cultural influences, indoctrination in “gender identity” and debate/argumentImagine being a decision-maker in 2030 faced with designing and allocating resources in a given sector without credible data on sex, as that is where things are heading. A term that describes people who are sexually or romantically attracted to multiple or varied sexes, genders, and gender identities, but not necessarily all or any. Straight the safeguarding framework Keeping Children Safe in Education (2019) and Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018) This term refers to the fact that sexuality, sexual attraction, and sexual behavior can change over time and vary based on circumstances.

The issue shows why sexuality matters. Drawing on the inspiring ‘Realising Sexual Rights’ workshop held at IDS in 2005, the resulting innovative articles here provide diverse accounts of sexual rights conceptions, mobilisation, and new approaches to implementation. This is a first for IDS – both to host such an event and to produce an IDS Bulletin on this theme. The human side of sexuality is combined with macropolitical and analytical issues. Sex” and “gender reassignment” are separate protected characteristics, but there has been much confusion about how the Equality Act 2010 and Gender Recognition Act 2004 interact. This has caused uncertainty for women, transgender people, employers, schools and service providers. It has led to tensions and conflicts.

The women’s and LGBT movements have in many cases successfully used legal activism to fight discriminatory laws. The law has also played a positive role as these movements have implemented protective frameworks to counter sexuality-based discrimination. People who experience romantic attraction, but not sexual attraction, to people of more than one gender. Closeted Suissa, J., & Sullivan, A. (2021). The Gender Wars, Academic Freedom and Education. Journal of Philosophy of Education. A broad sexual orientation category that includes people who experience romantic or sexual attraction to people of one sex or gender. Monosexuality typically includes those who are exclusively heterosexual, gay, or lesbian. Non-libidoist asexual Does sharing gender pronouns in the workplace matter? After all, it sounds like such a simple and kind gesture. Who wouldn’t want to make their colleagues feel more comfortable and respected in the workplace? But, like many initiatives that seemed a good idea at the time, sharing pronouns has a much wider negative impact, particularly for women.

Proportionality: ensuring that services take each person into account, respecting each individual and assessing risks. Michael Biggs, associate professor of sociology at the University of Oxford, whose analysis revealed the widespread confusion among respondents to the census question on gender identity, said: “Wanting to appear inclusive or wanting respondents to feel seen are not good reasons to confuse sex with gender identity. Teachers, school leadership teams and governorsin both state and private schools at primary and secondary levels setting rules and policies

Clarity about sex is crucial for safeguarding everybody’s human rights.

A romantic orientation that describes people who experience little or no romantic attraction, regardless of sex or gender. Autosexual The suppression of academic freedom is often discussed as though it was all about no-platforming. No-platforming is a disturbing symptom, but it is not the disease. It reflects a chilling climate, which also leads to the suppression of research, and constraints on discussion. Most such incidents go unreported [Sex Matters has a database of stories that have reached the public domain] Similarly, many people reading about such silencing assume that the victims must be bigoted transphobes. But, as our paper explains, merely asserting the reality and significance of sex differences between men and women is now sufficient to attract the charge of “transphobia”. Why does academic freedom matter? And they said therapists should be banned from telling under-18s that they can change their sex, when all that can be changed is self-identified gender. Use of the word opens up options beyond lesbian, gay, and bisexual to people who don’t fit neatly into these categories or prefer a category that isn’t dependent on sex and gender. a central aspect of being human throughout life (that) encompasses sex, gender identities and roles, sexual orientation, eroticism, pleasure, intimacy and reproduction. Sexuality is experienced and expressed in thoughts, fantasies, desires, beliefs, attitudes, values, behaviours, practices, roles and relationships. While sexuality can include all of these dimensions, not all of them are always experienced or expressed. Sexuality is influenced by the interaction of biological, psychological, social, economic, political, cultural, legal, historical, religious and spiritual factors.” 75

The gender-critical group Sex Matters has produced new guidance for those collecting official data, to end “contention, confusion and fear” on how to record this information. A person’s sex can be a risk factor in abuse, particularly sexual abuse, both for perpetrators and people at risk of harm. Put bluntly, statistically female pupils are most at risk of being subjected to sexual abuse and males – whether pupils or staff – present a larger risk as perpetrators.Although further litigation might eventually resolve confusion about the meaning of the word “sex” in the Equality Act, it would be expensive and burdensome on the individuals bringing the claims. Individual judges are also wary of bringing clarity to such a politically contentious question, when faced with a specific situation. However, this can lead to misleading information, as online sources often reduce the question of sexuality to sex practices only, and sexual partners are often objectified. There are differing opinions as to whether sexual education should be done by youth workers, or whether it should rather be left to professionals in the field of human sexuality. However, youth workers are often in a position to provide important assistance to young people in talking through issues related to sexuality and answering their concerns. This can be done through informal discussions or in organised workshops that deal with such topics as negotiation and communication skills, antidiscrimination and human rights education. A woman or female-identified person who experiences sexual, romantic, or emotional attraction to people of the same or a similar gender. However, it’s important to note that not all lesbians are female-identified; some define their identity as more nonmale or femme than female or feminine. A term used to describe an asexual person who experiences sexual feelings that are satisfied through self-stimulation or masturbation. In the UK, the belief that biological sex is real, important, and immutable is protected under the Equality Act which recognises the two sexes: female, and male. This was reinforced following Maya Forstater's recent employment tribunal win which, significantly for those of us campaigning for sex-based rights, made clear that it is unlawful to discriminate against those who recognise women as a class of people identified on the basis of their sex.
