If you've read any of Lucinda Berry's previous work it's no secret that she refuses to skirt around the darker issues in life and just nose dives straight into them, and Off The Deep End was no different. I am a compulsive reader of literary novels…but there was one book that kept me reading, the sort of novel I can’t put down… The Perfect Child , by Lucinda Berry.

Told from the point of view of both mothers in alternating chapters, we discover very different versions of a similar story and many times I wanted to tell both of them to get a grip and start behaving like adults.Try to understand what the author wished to do, and do not blame him for not achieving what he did not attempt. You’ve got a missing child, mental illness, and a few other things that I can’t get into because it would spoil the book. There is a bit of an adjustment period to Amy’s male voices, but after you get used to her pitch, it’s very enjoyable. I get that she went through something super traumatic that is impossible to relate to, but that direction was just too much.
