About this deal

Michael McIntyre is a great storyteller and I could actually hear his voice in my head telling the tales, as I read. His love for his family comes through clearly as well as the friendships and support he has received from the teams he works with.

Lots of funny anecdotes that made me laugh out loud and a pleasant way to spend a few hours reading. In addition to stand-up, Michael hosts the smash-hit television shows Michael McIntyre's Big Show (which won him a BAFTA for Best Entertainment Performance) and Michael McIntyre's The Wheel. He is brilliant at narrating, using different voices for impersonating people, and it really feels as though he is sitting with you chatting, as now and again he interrupts the narrative with off the cuff remarks and asides.I even heard a few people around me make a similar comment like “I heard him do some of those jokes before” when seeing Michael live in Cardiff.

I found myself missing him, and the rest of the book felt like it lost its sparkle, though their was also more weight to it, with Michael having to figure out how to move forward with his career without Addison in his corner. When I read Michael’s first book (which I only discovered this year), I was taken on a journey through his writing, laughing and crying.Every time a new DVD was released, I would get it as a Christmas present and me and my late father would settle down and watch it before we’d even sat down for breakfast, crying with laughter within the first five minutes. It was actually one of the parts I liked the most, where he discussed that period where he hadn't found his audience yet, or perhaps they hadn't found him. In the days before people know what to expect, when people know whether they want to seek you out or avoid you, performing can be a mixed bag. Michael McIntyre brings this wonderful autobiography to life with the kindle version that has his voice on the audio version. Of course as we've seen things turn out great for him but there was a learning curve for him to see what worked and what didn't and as big as the highs were some of the lows shattered his confidence.

Michael is plagued by self doubt and despite becoming famous didn't have the success that you'd expect. There were things I would have loved more on -- surely more goes into the making of a TV show than was discussed? His observations of every day life and all it's quirks are what makes him so funny because he relates to all of us in some way. I might be wrong, but in my opinion he now appears to have plateaued in his career, I am not a fan of his show, The Wheel, where to me it feels as if he is coasting on past glories. His hit BBC1 show Michael McIntyre’s Big Show aired in 2016, going on to win a BAFTA for Best Entertainment Performance and a Rose D’Or Award for Best Studio Entertainment.
