About this deal

Rebus shares top billing this time with Siobhan Clarke, the eager Detective Inspector who has been his long time friend. Two years later, in 2007, he appeared in a few additional shows under his name, including Ian Rankin Investigates Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Ian Rankin’s Hidden Edinburgh. Haggard is willing to do whatever it takes to avoid charges, including hanging out his colleagues to dry, he is willing to air the station's dirty linen, naming names, including a barely concealed allusion to Rebus himself.

In this short thriller from bestselling author Ian Rankin, murder comes to London’s most exclusive high-rise—and every resident is a suspect. I usually bite my fingernails down to the quick but I’ve not done it for a wee while and I’m quite proud of that, but they will break off eventually.Rebus is one of fiction's greatest creations' MARIAN KEYES In the depths of Edinburgh winter, the bodies are piling up for Detective John Rebus - two suicides, a murder, and the mysterious death of an inmate in one of Scotland's largest prisons.

The story had pace, it had to being a novella; but I felt I went through a full novel in Gish’s investigation. Talk about lifestyles of the rich and shameless – really the true target of this whole case could have been anyone.Malcolm Fox (he who once had his own series) also makes an appearance, which in my eyes is a little less welcome.

He is also a master of dialogue, especially when Rebus and Cafferty are growling at each other like two stray hounds sizing up each other in a garbage strewn Edinburgh back alley. My hectic UK tour coincided with a large-scale train strike which made for a few tense days, but it was a great pleasure to share the book with fans and to gauge their eventual reaction to *that* ending. The narrative then moves back in time to his former friend and police partner, Detective Inspector Siobhan Clarke’s interview with a serving police officer on domestic abuse charges. When his namesake was announced for the role, the author said: “Rebus has been a big part of my life for a long time now and to work with Gregory Burke to create a new story that sees him navigate life as a younger man in a contemporary (and ever-changing) Scotland has been a truly fascinating process.

The development offers a wide range of exclusive services, and the reception area is presided over by a uniformed man combining the roles of concierge and security guard.

This book didn’t finish at all how I thought it would, even though I did catch my breath - literally - at a particularly pivotal moment (no spoilers! But if you’re a fan of the books you’ll go oh, that’s from that book and that’s from that book, because what Gregory’s done is taken bits of themes and plots and characters from various books and put them in a blender to make something that works on screen as a single six hour story. I also toured the paperback of my William McIlvanney novel, The Dark Remains, and enjoyed a summer break in Belgium – plenty of art and plenty of beer.
