About this deal

Whilst I understand some of her points, she makes you feel ashamed to want to listen to the viewpoints of trained medical professionals. This book has kind of a fancy/ weird title, but I think a better one (and I feel like the author would agree) would be: Just breathe! You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.

In the second chapter, Siobhan Miller begins to share the toolkit that includes: two breathing techniques, visualizations, light-touch massage, guided relaxations, positive affirmations, and the art of creating shortcuts to achieve relaxation. Siobhan manages to completely demystify hypnobirthing, making it accessible and relevant to all women and all births. There were some really good takeaways from this book, and I particularly liked the science behind the labour.Hypnobirthing certainly doesn't involve being hypnotised; instead, it teaches you how your body works on a muscular and hormonal level when in labour and how you can use various relaxation techniques to ensure you are working with your body (rather than against it), making birth more efficient and comfortable. Through her teaching she seeks to educate and empower parents - and their birth partners - so that they can enjoy amazing and positive birth experiences, however they choose to bring their babies into the world. I haven’t given birth yet and although I’ve read this book cover to cover I know I’m not done reading it.

No matter where you sit on the 'anxious-to-excited' spectrum at the moment, by the time you finish this book you'll feel relaxed, capable and genuinely excited about giving birth, because it's truly the most awesome thing you'll ever get to do in your life. But somehow, even knowing this- the book does leave you feeling somewhat positive, and there are some good ideas in there. Siobhan Miller very convincingly argues that this view of childbirth, which we all (men included) soak in from an early age through TV shows and films, gives us a warped idea of childbirth.Don't get fooled by the title of the book "hypnobirthing", it really doesn't have anything to do with hypnosis. I did find the more practical elements around breathing techniques and packing my hospital bag helpful, but it was not worth purchasing this book for as it's all information that can be easily sourced elsewhere. And like I said- even if you are planning an epidural or ceasarian or ANY type of birth, this book is just amazing and reminds us the power of our thoughts and that it should be YOUR decision.

I just can't recommend this book enough and hope it helps others to have a more calm and positive birth experience. Really good information not just about hypnobirthing but also about how a pregnancy works, how your body and muskle work.

I fully advocate your body your choice, but that’s not to say you can’t get information from multiple sources and then make your own decision. Edit: although ended up not giving birth naturally, this book put me in the right mindset and I am forever thankful.

This book is for EVERY type of person and for EVERY type of birth -- from a home water birth through to an unplanned caesarean. The book was just a basic primer on what you need to know for birth— the stages of labor, how to pack a hospital bag, writing a birth plan. In generale però il piglio dell’autrice l’ho trovato molto spesso fastidioso (imho) e ripetitivo fino alla nausea.

After reading many books to help prepare for the birth of my baby, I really feel this one gave me many tools that me and my partner will be able to use. I preferred the digital course as I find the book put a strong emphasis on the advantages of home birth, which I find awesome for some but you start feeling bad if it's just not for you. I'm sure the breathing techniques will also come in handy but the sections of the book focusing on birth stories and reinforcing that you can say no to any intervention were less informative for me.
