About this deal

Listen to them read an extract from the book and discover the inspiration behind their Adventures on Trains Series. After completing artistic studies she made a career in advertising and has been the founder and owner of a small award winning design and trade business. The attention to detail over this is brilliant, because there is no difference in line strength in the drawings - it is done with cross-hatchings rather than the style of the earlier books which mimics different pencil strengths.

At first it was really confusing trying to get my head around all of the characters and how they were all connected and then after the 100 page mark the plot just got a little bit too ridiculous for me. Uncle Nat and Hal do travel by train to get to Germany, and then the Kratzenstein's do have a private funeral train that is used for Alexander's services, but besides that, you are at the Kratzenstein's gothic-feeling home. The Adventures on Trains series has been one of my favourite discoveries of the last few years, so I was thrilled to receive an ARC of Danger at Dead Man’s Pass. I honestly can not believe that an installment in this series actually got less than 4 stars and that makes me so sad. She spent her early career in the music industry running Setanta Records, an independent record label, and managing bands, most notably The Divine Comedy.I liked all the characters, warmed to them all very quickly and enjoyed the bonds of friendship that formed between them. I was absolutely delighted to be accepted on Net Galley to read and review this title; I am a huge fan of the ‘Adventures on Trains’ series and have loved the first 3 stories.

I definitely recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a solid, heart-warming, engaging Children's Mystery. Ultimately that didn't really stop us from enjoying the book, but I think the final details when Hal explains things were somewhat lost on us as we weren't clear even then who was who. It would have been quite useful to have it, as I was struggling to figure out how one branch of the family were related, but that was a minor thing. A mysterious letter from an old friend asks Hal and Uncle Nat to help investigate a spooky supernatural mystery. I liked the twists this one had to it, including wondering if there was going to be a fantasy element, or would it be explained?Join the crew and tell us what you thought of this month’s title, discover other brilliant books in our gallery of reading recommendations, stay updated by signing up to our newsletter and make some tasty book-themed snacks for your Book Club! Although I'm still interested in continuing this series, this story was probably the worst in the series.
