About this deal

Some reading and cover corner creases, light shelf wear with slight loss to cover gilding, paper lightly edge toned. Historical characters and events make their appearance on a regular basis including a cameo by Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal and British Labour leader and future Prime Minister Harold Wilson. She had never known their old retainer to show the slightest emotion in front of a member of the family, and hardly recognized the shrunken figure now clutching on to the mantelpiece for support; the usual mask of self-composure had been replaced with the cruel reality of death. The plot should satisfy most fans of thriller novels as it has plenty of unexpected twists and turns, moments of high drama, romance, murder and personal tragedy. Any "Author Information" displayed below reflects the author's biography at the time this particular book was published.

This is due to the fact that Archer felt that he could not end the series without suddenly killing Harry Clifton, the protagonist of the series so he decided to extend the series. When I was in Class 7, my father recommended the first Jeffrey Archer novel I read - Not A Penny More, Not A Penny Less. Hardcastle is the Chairman of the Farthing Bank and he will join forces with the Barrington’s to try and thwart Don Pedro Martinez and his sons. Have seen a few negative reviews of the book, but to me all these books are pretty much the same in terms of style and substance. He gained a Blue in Athletics at Oxford, was President of the University Athletics Club, and went on to run the 100 yards in 9. Hardcastle’s first decision is who to support to become the next chairman of the board: Emma Clifton or Major Alex Fisher?

The soap opera that is the lives of the Clifton and Barrington families continues in this fourth entry in the Clifton Chronicles. However, I read other authors for their words, and the way they put words together to make extraordinary and beautiful sentences. Emma had once read that in times of personal tragedy, all anyone wanted to do was turn the clock back. Emma resolves to fill his spot but is stalled by Martinez, who nominates one of his men, Major Alex Fisher, to sabotage the firm during this critical moment. The Clifton family saga has turned out to be a masterful mix of fiction in a factually correct world, quirks of logical people and speedy action backed by a lot of thought. I have read all the previous books in The Clifton Chronicles and looked forward to this one with great anticipation. The story never stops and even the minor branch-offs prove highly entertaining and develop the ever-growing list of individuals whose lives become intertwined with the Cliftons and Barringtons.

And those who have not read the previous volumes I suggest reading the thriller volumes first as you won't be able to understand the story if won't read them first. He opened the door, and she climbed in and sank into the leather upholstery, as if she was an old lady.

There will be seven books in the Clifton Chronicles instead of the initial five as was earlier intended.

I do wonder, though, how long these chronicles can continue without Archer's readers getting very cross. Being a marvelous storyteller and a tease that he is, has managed to leave the story with an excellent cliff-hanger that constrains us to get the following installment (I already have it). This causes an upheaval that none of them could have anticipated, and will change the lives of every member of the Clifton and Barrington families. The Chelsea Magistrates, and the advocates who appear in front of them, apparently wear gowns and transfer criminal cases - without any investigation of the facts - to the High Court (they might have committed them to the Assizes, Central Criminal Court or Quarter Sessions but not to the High Court and never without first hearing committal proceedings).

The IRA, finding out that he intended to short them the bounty fee, holds him at gunpoint at the novel’s cliffhanger ending. Another component that stands out is Jessica’s lineage as her adopted parents Harry and Emma have not made her aware of who her parents were which leads to complications.
