About this deal

Go down part of the list each week with your child, where a child can spell and accurately define a word move on. Audio books are another great way of exposing children to language and vocabulary, especially when time is limited. Regularly working through 11+ Vocabulary test papers will improve your speed, accuracy, and time management. My daughter is great at spelling, she made about 5 mistakes in the whole book but these were mistakes in basic vocabulary so I feel that the book was useful. Sometimes finding a book related to something they’ve recently watched on TV or a film can be a good entry into it.

This can be played with just you and your child, or you can involve the family to help make revision a team activity. Using oral and written techniques, encourage your child to put the word into a sentence to confirm their understanding. This test provides you with 11 plus practice test questions on Vocabulary , and those questions framed in the question types asked in the 11 plus entrance exams. When your child asks the meaning of a word, use words that they already know to explain and illustrate it.No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. If your child is taking the 11 plus for entry to a selective secondary school, they will likely be tested on their vocabulary knowledge.

They will also need to analyse a variety of texts including poetry, play scripts, descriptive and narrative texts. Children should continue to be read to at this age, alongside reading by themselves, allowing for discussion and questioning of the vocabulary read, and encouraging growth in contextual understanding. At Explore Learning, we advocate for regular engagement with vocabulary exercises in our tailored 11 Plus tuition programme. Most tutors do insist children do a great deal of vocabulary development work BUT parents must also do their bit by making sure children read every day at home, without the reading element the money spent on tutoring may well be wasted. While we know you want to do all you can to help your child succeed in their 11 Plus, try not to take the full load on alone – let us help!

For writing and 11 Plus comprehension tasks, having a good understanding of 11 Plus vocabulary will help your child succeed. The correct choice will have a green tick and if you have chosen the wrong one, it will be highlighted in red. This course also includes a number of revision puzzles in each part which have been proven to enhance a child’s thinking and reasoning skills. Flashcards help the child build connections within words and not just memorize but also understand and learn their meanings.

Plenty of studies have shown that children who read many books (and a range of genres) learn new words faster and have much wider vocabularies than children who seldom read. Take the hard work out of helping your child revise vocabulary and grammar with these nifty 11 Plus books.

In this book Rose McGowan sets out 100 exercises, to be completed one per day, to enhance your child's vocabulary. As with all exams, starting preparation and revision as early as possible is an excellent way to get your child ready for their 11 Plus.

It contains a list of recommended reads for children preparing for the 11 Plus, and these books are bound to include the advanced vocabulary your children have learnt from this list.
