About this deal

As well as showing the consequences of global warming, Bear and his cub also mirror April and her father. When April hears that a polar bear has been shot and injured in Svalbard, she’s convinced it’s her friend and persuades her dad to travel with her to the northernmost reaches of the Arctic. Convincing her Dad to take her back to the Arctic, she only hopes she can make it in time and that her very best friend is okay. Hannah Gold has a really wholesome style of writing along with the traditional illustrations which go alongside the writing as well. This entirely successful follow-up is just as exciting a story of love and enduring respect as its predecessor.

What awaits April, and her dad, is far more than April could have imagined - will she find Bear in time to help him when she feels he needs her? The author’s passion for her subject makes for a powerful and memorable reading experience that will certainly not disappoint the many fans of the award-winning The Last Bear, providing a satisfying and credible outcome which leaves you filled with hope for both April and Bear. April is back in this sequel and is even more headstrong and determined to fight for the plight of polar battles and battle against climate change. I haven’t read book one in this series but knew the basic premise of it and do intend to read it also.Harper Collins) Finding Bear is the follow-up to Hannah Gold’s excellent and best-selling The Last Bear. When Hannah Gold’s The Last Bear was published, I think it took everyone by surprise with its phenomenal readership. When I first requested Hannah Gold’s middle grade novel, Finding Bear, I didn’t realize that it was a sequel to Gold’s first novel The Last Bear in The Last Bear series. I thoroughly enjoyed Hannah Gold's first book in this series - Finding Bear - and was more than excited when I heard there would be a sequel. Also at the end there's a warning about not trying to befriend real polar bears which I enjoyed 10/10.

When they get to Svalbard, they are staying in a bit of a shabby hotel, run by Jurgen who is surprised to see a child in Svalbard in the Winter. I borrowed The Last Bear from the library and read it in preparation for the second installment, and I really enjoyed both! This is a really special book and I’m not surprised this and Hannah’s two other books have been bestsellers. But the frozen environment of the tundra in winter is unbelievably hostile to human travel, and despite hiring the most highly skilled (and reluctant!Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). April believes that only she can help Bear and so begins an unforgettable journey across frozen tundra and icy glaciers. The strong environmental message at the heart of the story which is rooted in the idea that love and friendship are the foundation of saving animals and the environment is a bit cheesy…But true.

It is one of the most gorgeous, moving, beautiful, breathtaking, perfect stories, ideal for readers aged 9 to 90. The magical bond between girl and bear taps into every child’s dream, but Gold also explores themes of grief and loss, and what it means to love enough to let go. Now, in Finding Bear, April is back at home, her adventures on Bear Island behind her, normal life is supposed to be taking over, it is where she is meant to be.I have not read the first book about Bear by Hannah Gold, so I was slightly apprehensive about beginning with the sequel. But along the way, she discovers much more than she bargained for - a tiny polar bear cub, desperately in need of her help. As a fellow Arctic fanatic, I wanted to follow up on April's previous adventures with Bear - a polar bear she helped rescue in the first book. She gets picked up by a woman who clearly lives there; she makes it quite clear Ashe thinks April is stupid!
