About this deal

O'Neill has been one of the more interesting characters in football over the years and so it's no surprise that this is one of the better football autobiographies I have read.

Along the way, they’ll unlock wisdom for those of us navigating our own coupledoms, and for those still seeking their perfect match. Martin grew up in Northern Ireland with the backdrop of the troubles always lingering as part of his childhood, as a player he won the most coveted club trophy that exists and as a manager developed a reputation for creating teams that punch above their weight. For the first time, Martin O'Neill reflects on one of the most varied and successful football careers in the British Isles. The Greatest Secret, the long-awaited major work by Rhonda Byrne, lays out the next quantum leap in a journey that will take the listener beyond the material world and into the spiritual realm, where all possibilities exist. Go behind-the-scenes on his international career for Northern Ireland, playing alongside and getting to know the Belfast Boy himself, George Best. With a journey spanning over fifty years, Martin dives into the exhilarating highs of trophies, promotion and World Cup fights – and the painful lows of fan confrontations, boardroom drama, relegation scraps and getting fired.

What could be a more tempting gift than a compendium of David Sedaris's best stories, selected by the author himself? O'Neill represented Northern Ireland over sixty times, playing alongside George Best and captaining the side at the 1982 World Cup, where they reached the quarter-finals. He also made Aston Villa punch above their weight and made them regular challengers for a top 6 spot despite a lack of significant investment in the playing squad.

The last couple of chapters feel rushed, and this is a book that starts well but fades as it goes on. Not surprisingly for a man of Martin O'Neill's intelligence, this one was written by the man himself. O'Neill moved into club management and took the helm at Grantham Town, Wycombe Wanderers, Norwich City, Leicester City, Celtic, Aston Villa, Sunderland and Nottingham Forest. Written with his trademark honesty and humour, this autobiography is from one of the most compelling and well-respected players and managers in football, Martin O'Neill.
