We have Lionsgate's new Mad Men Complete Collection Blu-ray boxset in for review at the moment and we took the opportunity to video the unboxing so you can see what goodies lie in wait for fans of the ground-breaking series set in the world of 60s advertising. I’m sure anyone listening to the entire collection will find some overlapping information but, by and large, I only encountered a well-rounded, thoughtful examination of each episode. I do hope that's all merely the symptom of first season growing pains, but I’ll have to reserve judgment until I can dig into the second season this summer. I bought this as a Christmas present for my husband as we were just finishing another box set and wanted something to watch as a backup when the usual tv had nothing to offer.This was a series where the cast, the clothes and the sets were as important as the scripts, these were advertising executives after all, and the Blu-rays fully respect those stylistic choices. Even so, Weiner doesn’t revel in his characters’ behavior or the firm’s exploits to shock his audience (as most edgy dramas on television are obsessed with doing), but instead aims to pull back the curtain on the world of advertising, marketing, and materialism in general.
