About this deal

Now, a lot has changed since 2009, notably Beats’ separation from the original partner company Monster, eventually leading to Beats being bought out by Apple in 2014. A year before Apple bought the company out, Beats released a revised version of all of their headphones , most notably the Beats Studio 2.0s . As with the original Studio Buds, controls come courtesy of depressable “Beats” buttons found on the outside of the earbuds. These worked consistently well and didn’t elicit any discomfort when pressed in, unlike the budget Sony WF-C500 I reviewed recently. By default, a long press on either bud cycles between ANC being on or off (as well as transparency mode if toggled on in the app), though you can customise this to have one bud summon your phone’s voice assistant or have the left and right buds increase and decrease volume. footnote11Fast Pair requires location enabled. Full access to features requires an Android 6.0 or newer device with Google Play Service enabled and Google Account. The Studio Buds Plus’ adaptive qualities don’t extend to changes in the level of external noise, however, unlike the Beats Fit Pro and many other premium true wireless earbuds. Having an ANC system that adjusts automatically to suit different environments can be useful but I didn’t feel its absence too keenly here.

Audio Switch – seamlessly transition audio between your Android, Chromebook and other compatible devices 9 That’s the extent of your customisation options and these fall a little short of what I’d expect from buds costing what the Studio Buds Plus do. It’s always frustrating to have to choose controls to miss out on, and doing so stings that much more when cheaper options such as the Redmi Buds 4 Pro offer a far broader range of controls.

Lastly, the sound through the Bluetooth wireless favors surprisingly well compared to the wired version. I expected a noticeable drop in quality when listening through Bluetooth, but I was actually really impressed that the quality didn’t really seem to drop at all when listening from my phone’s Bluetooth . The only difference is you might have to turn the volume up a couple notches to match the volume of the wired version. 5. Bottom Line The originals felt somewhat bulky, but these are lighter and the foldable design makes them an easy portable companion. A case is included, as well as two detachable cables – one with, and one without, inline controls.

Let me just warn you that accuracy does not always result in the most enjoyable listening experience (!!!) , as a lot of these studio headphones don’t provide the punchiness of the bass that fun headphones like the Beats creates. As I mentioned above the big problem with the Studio and Studio Wireless is the significant discontinuity in FR at 500Hz. If the whole top part of the response 1kHz and up were shifted down 5-8dB these would be much better sounding headphones. using included USB-C cable with a compatible USB-enabled source device. Requires compatible lossless content from supported apps/services. Not all content is available in lossless format.
