About this deal

Transformers are normally external to the doorbell and are often positioned in the consumer unit, but can be positioned anywhere (they are ugly boxes are not normally visible). But it has the advantage that you don't have to be a mathematical genius to tinker with it until you get what you need.

This topic has been useful to help me choose a new, compatible transformer after determining that the existing transformer used to power the old chime and doorbell didn’t work with the Ring Video Doorbell wired. Electrical wiring must be in place or installed, often requiring a transformer to ensure the correct voltage is supplied. It looks like the 4 core cable could have been there to supply an illuminated bell push, but has been configured to be just two wires. For reference, the Video Doorbell Wired requires a transformer that is rated 8-24 VAC, 10-40VA, 50/60Hz.e. I've intercepted the feed from the transformer to the chime box within the hallway ceiling) to get back to clean metal straight from the source. I've tried to check the voltage available at the button using a multimeter across the terminal screws.

The following schematic is a kind of adaptation of the old vibrating reed relays that were used "back in the day" when someone wanted to place a HAM radio in their car trunk. The original poster has also shared a video detailing their setup process and what transformer they used, which is linked here for ease of access. If you cut and shorted the cable between the TRANSFORMER and CHIME that would blow the fuse as there is a + and - in the cable. Having checked more closely I've discovered that the transformer does have a 1A fuse in it, according to its case, so potentially that blew when the wires brushed against each other. An ideal replacement for a range of bell push buttons from the reputable and popular brand, Duracell.

When you add the transformer, uncover the relay, turn out the lights, and you may see small sparks fly across the moving contacts. If you don’t feel comfortable handling the wiring for the transformer on your own, we recommend consulting a qualified electrician. It provides a stable 12V DC output with an impressive 1A current rating, ensuring optimal performance. So the process of coordinating the relay coil's mechanical mass and natural frequency details, coil inductance and internal resistance details, and the two resistors and the one capacitor needs awareness and probably some work to get into the right balance.

Can you suggest an extremely simple, extremely cheap way to feed something that resembles "8-12V AC" to the doorbell by using 12V DC as source? Unless they are sold as kits, a doorbell will need a bell push button and bell wire as well - the bell wire must be good quality to prevent "voltage drop" at these low voltages (a symptom is that the doorbell will sound feeble). That formed one of the switches and you could also adjust the screw (press harder or less hard on the reed when it wasn't operating) to also adjust the frequency.I see other products such as the DIN rail transformer and plug in transformer, but these aren’t always the right products. The Video Doorbell 3 requires a standard doorbell system with 8-24VAC doorbell transformer if you plan to hardwire it. Introducing the 12V 1A DC Power Supply Transformer, the ideal power source for your Aqara Smart Video Doorbell G4. The upshot is that you've created a "mechanical switching" inverter supply and the output of the transformer will be a useful AC voltage. In most cases, where the product is found to have a valid fault, the warranty permits complete replacement of the defective item free of charge.
